GENERAL MANAGER
Townsville Basketball Inc.
Lead a proud community sporting organisation into its next era.
Townsville Basketball Inc. (TBI) has been at the heart of basketball in the Townsville region for more than 50 years. We run competitions, programs and pathways for thousands of players, coaches, officials and families from first-time rookies through to our Heat and Flames representative teams. We're now looking for a General Manager to lead the implementation of our 2018–2028 Strategic Plan and take TBI into its next phase of growth.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the TBI Board, the General Manager is accountable for delivering on TBI's vision, mission and strategic objectives. You'll balance the development and welfare of the game across Townsville and surrounding regions with sound financial management and strong relationships with every one of our stakeholders from Basketball Australia and Basketball Queensland to Townsville City Council, affiliated clubs, sponsors, schools, members, government, families, volunteers and spectators.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll guide a small staff team and a much larger community of volunteers, keep the books honest and transparent to the Board, maintain the facilities our community plays in, and make sure every child who walks through our doors is safe, included and welcomed.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
People and culture
* Guide, support and mentor TBI staff and volunteers to perform at their best and grow in their roles.
* Build and sustain a strong volunteer culture recruiting, supervising, training and recognising the people who keep TBI running.
* Support programs that lift the skills of players, coaches, referees and technical officials through education, training and competition.
Growth and participation
* Grow registered participation players, coaches and officials across the region.
* Drive female participation, particularly in the 16–25 age group.
* Expand the Heat and Flames rookies programs for male and female participants.
* Expand the competition offering to strengthen TBI's long-term financial position.
Financial management
* Prepare and present monthly financial reporting to the Board.
* Use Xero effectively for budgeting, variance analysis and corrective action.
* Improve stock management and control systems to maximise returns and accountability.
* Establish and support a fundraising committee to secure partnerships, sponsorships and grants aligned with the strategic plan.
Facilities
* Engage the right professionals to prepare and deliver an annual repair and maintenance program for all facilities.
* Identify future infrastructure needs and actively seek grants, partnerships and other funding sources to deliver them.
Stakeholder relationships
Foster strong working relationships with Basketball Australia, Basketball Queensland, Townsville City Council, affiliated clubs, sponsors, members, government, schools, families, other community and sporting groups, spectators and volunteers.
Child safety and inclusion
* Provide a child safe and inclusive environment for everyone involved with TBI.
* Maintain compliance with all relevant Child Safety legislation and model appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
* Proven senior leadership experience — ideally 5+ years at a GM, Executive Manager or equivalent level, with a track record in sport, not-for-profit or community-based organisations.
* Strong financial acumen — confident presenting financial results to a Board, working with Xero or similar accounting systems, and managing budgets, variance and cash flow.
* Demonstrated stakeholder management across government, sponsors, affiliates, members and community groups.
* Genuine people leadership skills and the patience and warmth to lead volunteers as well as staff.
* Experience in grant acquisition, sponsorship development and fundraising.
* Understanding of facilities management, capital works and asset maintenance.
* A current Working with Children Check (Blue Card), or willingness to obtain one, and a clear understanding of Child Safety obligations in a sporting environment.
* A current driver's licence.
* Passion for community sport and a genuine commitment to the Townsville region.
WHAT WE OFFER
* A meaningful leadership role at the centre of a much-loved community organisation.
* Attractive remuneration package, commensurate with experience.
* Full-time position based at Carmichael Ford Stadium, Annandale, Townsville.
* The chance to shape the future of basketball across North Queensland.
* A supportive Board and a team that cares about the game and the people who play it.
The role is a full-time, ongoing position. Ordinary hours are 38 per week, with weekend and public holiday work required in line with our competition calendar.
