Mackay Northern Beaches State High School seeks a focused and dynamic Head of Department - Health and Physical Education to join a committed team dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes and pathways for all students. This opportunity will suit an educator who is a collaborative team member, passionate about delivering high quality HPE teaching and learning opportunities and demonstrating strong curriculum capability.
The successful applicant will also lead the development of a range of sporting opportunities that support student growth and whole school sporting achievement. Building positive relationships with students, staff and stakeholders, while effectively leading the HPE faculty and contributing to the school vision. This is a temporary full-time position commencing 13 July 2026 until 11 December 2026, unless otherwise determined.

About The Role
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
* Lead the HPE faculty to develop and enact a shared vision for high quality HPE teaching and learning aligned with the Australian Curriculum and whole school improvement priorities.
* Provide instructional leadership to ensure consistent, high quality teaching practice that improves student engagement, wellbeing and achievement in HPE.
* Build staff capability through coaching, collaboration and professional learning that strengthens teaching practice across the faculty.
* Use student achievement and participation data to inform planning, monitor progress and evaluate the impact of HPE programs and initiatives.
* Foster a strong culture of student participation in sport by coordinating opportunities across interhouse, District, Regional and State competitions.
* Develop productive partnerships with students, parents, community organisations and sporting bodies to enhance learning and sporting opportunities.
* Manage human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources effectively while ensuring alignment with departmental policy and contributing to whole school leadership priorities.
