We are seeking suitable applicants to join the team as Emergency Registrars at the Royal Hobart Hospital starting 1 February 2027. The role offers flexible employment terms, including negotiated training contract lengths up to three years and full‐time or part‐time positions for junior and senior registrars.
About the Role
As an Emergency Registrar in the Emergency Department (ED) at the Royal Hobart Hospital, you will provide emergency care to patients attending the ED. You will work a mix of day, evening, night and weekend shifts, with rostered clinical duties and protected training time. The role supports a structured education program and preparation for ACEM primary and fellowship examinations, as well as an option to undertake the AST EM StAMPS exam.
Responsibilities
* Deliver emergency medical care to a high volume of patients in a fast‐paced environment.
* Attend routine and complex emergency presentations, including triage, assessment, treatment and documentation.
* Work a mix of day, evening, night and weekend shifts (day/evening 9.5 h, night 10 h); 8 clinical shifts per fortnight plus 10 h protected training time.
* Participate in a full‐day education program each fortnight, focused on clinical skills and professional development.
* Prepare for ACEM examinations and, where eligible, the AST EM StAMPS exam.
* Collaborate with allied health professionals to facilitate patient care pathways.
Qualifications
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable).
* Ability to pass required pre‐employment checks, including convictions, identification and disciplinary action.

Salary and Employment
Salary: $138,978 – $194,675 per annum. Fixed‐term, full‐time day work for 76 hours per fortnight plus 10 h protected training time per fortnight (pro rata). Contract commences 1 February 2027 and ends 8 February 2028, with negotiations possible for up to 36 months.
Location
Royal Hobart Hospital, Hobart, Tasmania – a tertiary referral and teaching hospital with a busy ED receiving over 80,000 patients annually.
