We have NATA accredited (ISO/IEC 17025) coal laboratories servicing all major coal ports in Australia and have significant involvement with the superintending of coal exported overseas, quality control at mine sites / power plants and borecore evaluation.Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Coal Technician to support the accurate and timely collection, preparation, and analysis of CHPP and train samples in accordance with site protocols and relevant Australian/International Standards.This is a fixed-term contract for six months.Your key responsibilities in this role will include but are not limited to:Ensure that correct procedures are utilized in all aspects of sampling, recording, preparation, analysis, storage and reportingTo provide and maintain a high quality of accurate and timely completion of the aboveTo ensure accuracy, precision and traceability of prepared samplesAssist with the preventative maintenance of all preparation equipmentTo maintain a safety aware environmentWritten communication to the previous/following shiftThe authority to cease to use any equipment that may constitute a safety hazard or that may effect the integrity of results (any such act must be reported to the Supervisor immediately)Perform duties of all routine shipping and exploration project sampling, preparation and analysisPlan shift workflow and coordinate pick-ups and analysisMore about this role:Required to work FIFO 7/7 Day/Night 12hr shift rotating rosterRequired to work at various sites as per business requirementsRequired to do work at classification levels up to and including this classificationRequired to participate in housekeeping at their place of work, company supplied site vehicle and the local site in order to maintain a clean, safe and pleasant working environment.QualificationsTo succeed in this role, you will ideally have:Experience in coal sampling, preparation, and testing, or in a general mineral laboratory environment (preferred but not essential)Proficiency in Microsoft OfficeFlexibility to work a 7/7 day-night rosterAbility to work independently or as part of a small team in remote locationsAn open manual Australian driver’s licence (preferred)Standard 11 certificationUndergo a pre-employment medical and health assessmentAdditional InformationWHY WORK FOR SGS?Working at SGS means joining an innovative, Global company.
