Upcycle Newcastle is looking for a motivated, part-time Business Manager to join the team.
If you are passionate about environmental sustainability, are a strong communicator, committed to improving organisational resilience through strategic and operational leaderships; and enjoy driving stakeholder and community education and engagement, this is the role for you. You will also manage UN's workspace and its workforce of committed and enthusiastic volunteers.
It is a permanent part-time position of 18 hours/week, a key organisational role reporting directly to UN's Management Committee.

**Role Description: Business Manager - Upcycle Newcastle**
Reporting to: Transition Newcastle Committee
**Salary**: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry (SCHADS) Award, Social and Community Services Level 4. $43.08 per hour plus 11.5% super, total salary with super $48.03 per hour
Hours: 18 hr/week
Location: Shed 7D, 50 Clyde St, Hamilton North, and off-site as required
Upcycle Newcastle (UN) is a local not-for-profit organisation focused on saving and reusing têxtile waste by promoting creative reuse and repair of this waste. Concerned about our environment and the waste generated by society, UN responds with positive, creative solutions by inspiring and teaching others to upcycle discarded têxtiles and creating upcycled goods for sale.
Educating the community on how to upcycle and save têxtiles is a key priority for UN. UN has a small group of dedicated volunteers who conduct upcycling workshops, courses and events at our Shed, in schools and the community. Skilled volunteers also create upcycled goods for sale online, at our Shed and at markets and other community events.
**Key Requirements of the Role**
UN's Business Manager will play a key role in its ongoing success. Building on the strong foundation and reputation of UN, the Business Manager will focus on:
- promoting and educating the community about conscious consumption and alternatives to over consumption of têxtiles
- encouraging the reduction of waste through upcycling and fostering creative reuse
- consolidating UN's financial sustainability through income generation
- creating a welcoming, inclusive workshop space that balances the need for financial sustainability with the need for a space where people can participate in a variety of activities and where there are opportunities for people to contribute their skills and passions
- managing and coordinating UN's volunteer workforce, events and workshop program.
**Qualifications / Skills**
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has the following qualifications / skills:
- Ability to lead a socially responsible business
- Ability to identify and generate new income sources
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and project management tools
- Experience in business administration or related field
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Business Administration, Community Services) or equivalent experience

**Probationary Period**
There will be a 3-month probationary period to ensure a good fit between the successful applicant and Upcycle Newcastle.

- Maintain a broad overview of UN, and its projects and activities to ensure UN is cohesive, sustainable and vibrant

Responsibility 2 - Strategic and operational planning and oversight
- In conjunction with the UN Committee, undertake regular reviews of the UN strategic plan
- Create a business plan (including a stakeholder engagement plan) to enable successful implementation of UN's strategic plan
- Explore program possibilities with people within and outside UN
- Enable the creation of a varied, high-quality workshop program
- Develop and maintain systems, policies and procedures to ensure high quality of products and services are delivered
- Obtain and maintain any accreditation or compliance requirements for UN, its volunteers and activities
