Located in the greater Hobart area (Tasmania-wide considered) this is an exciting opportunity for an energetic GM - Commercial to grow the building and construction industry's workforce of the future and cement Master Builders Tasmania's position as a leading training provider.
Reporting to the Master Builders Tasmania CEO, the GM - Commercial is focused on sustainably growing the association's training businesses, including High Risk Work Solutions, the Group Training Organisation, as well as a range of CPD, qualifications and short courses.
This role includes leadership of the training strategy, business development, strategic partnerships, and other growth initiatives. It also involves oversight of training and service quality, as well as the management of key staff and stakeholders, work health and safety outcomes and building positive workplace culture.
The GM - Commercial will engage with industry to assess training opportunities and gaps while ensuring the association meets the needs of the industry. Working closely with the CEO and senior leadership team, you will help ensure operational efficiency and market competitiveness.
The GM - Commercial will work out of our new custom-built training headquarters at Cambridge, but will also be responsible for growing our regional footprint, working side by side with industry partners and members, therefore the successful candidate must be willing to travel.
Key responsibilities
* Develop a comprehensive understanding of customer needs and build a culture of training excellence as the Tasmanian trainer of choice
* Develop and implement Master Builders Tasmania's commercial strategy for all aspects of the training business, driving revenue growth.
* Lead and manage commercial operations of the training functions within MBT, including sales, marketing, client engagement, and strategic partnerships.
* Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, including expansion into new markets, products, or services.
* Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes within the construction training sector.
* Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and the provision of a safe working environment for all staff and GTO apprentices.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders such as industry partners, government departments, TasTAFE, Tasmanian schools, job network providers and employment organisations.
* Lead, coach, and develop the teams involved in MBT's training businesses, fostering a culture of performance, accountability, and innovation.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
* Proven senior leadership experience in a commercial or business development role, preferably within the VET, trades, or training services sectors.
* Strong financial acumen with a track record of managing budgets, driving revenue, and improving profitability.
* Strong knowledge of funding frameworks and regulatory environments.
* Exceptional communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, drive strategic initiatives, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
Desirable
* Experience in a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or similar education/training business.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Management, or a related field.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake a National Police Check and pre-employment medical as pre-requisites to their engagement and maintain Working With Vulnerable People registration and drivers license as part of their ongoing employment.
A remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
