Family Violence Specialist Solicitor

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced solicitor to join our team as a Family Violence Specialist. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the legal, social, and cultural dynamics of family violence and a commitment to trauma-informed, client-centred practice.
* Provide high-quality, trauma-informed legal assistance to women and children experiencing family violence.
* Work collaboratively with our Principal Solicitor and Senior Solicitor to ensure the legal program is effectively integrated across all areas of our organisation's family violence support services.
* Improve access to justice for women and children experiencing family violence through the provision of expert legal advice and representation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
* A minimum Bachelor of Law and Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (or equivalent).
* A current Australian Practising Certificate which entitles them to practice as a solicitor in Victoria.
* A minimum two years relevant experience in the family violence jurisdiction and family law.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the relevant law and court procedures, including a focus on the family law and family violence jurisdiction.
* Demonstrated experience in a client-focused approach that facilitates empowerment and independence for women, and safety and security for women and their children.
* Demonstrated competence in legal advocacy before administrative decision makers and/or courts.
* Good interpersonal skills and the capacity to communicate and negotiate effectively with all stakeholders and clients.
* A strong understanding of the legal, social, and cultural dynamics of family violence, and a commitment to trauma-informed, client-centred practice.
* Excellent organisational skills with flexibility to prioritise a range of competing demands.
* Demonstrated experience working autonomously and with a high degree of initiative and integrity.
* Entitlement to practice in federal courts and courts exercising federal jurisdiction (entry on the High Court Register).

Please note that this is a permanent, ongoing position, subject to funding. The position is 0.8-full time, with hours worked during business hours of 9.00am - 5.06pm between Monday to Friday. Flexibility in working hours will be required from time to time as the need arises.
The position is based at our Warrnambool office, with some outreach required.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills, with an annual salary range of $110,124 – $114,983 plus superannuation (pro rata for part-time). Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.
