About our Client
Our client, the Northern Land Council (NLC), is a respected statutory authority established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (NT The NLC supports Traditional Owners and Aboriginal people across the Top End by amplifying community voices, upholding cultural authority, and progressing social, political and economic participation.
This role directly supports the leadership team, ensuring the Chairperson is able to fulfil their statutory responsibilities and community obligations effectively.
About the role
The Executive Officer to the Chairperson plays a vital role in supporting the governance, leadership and operational functions of the Chair. You'll work closely with the Chairperson to ensure their time, commitments, travel and priorities are managed smoothly and professionally.
This is a hands-on, dynamic position where you will prepare high‑level briefings, coordinate stakeholder meetings, support policy and governance work, and accompany the Chair to official travel and engagements across the region. This role requires strong cultural capability, discretion, and the ability to operate confidently between community and executive spaces.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high-level executive, administrative and governance support to the Chairperson.
* Manage the Chair's schedule, correspondence, briefings and travel logistics.
* Accompany the Chair to official meetings, community visits and regional travel, ensuring preparedness and follow‑up.
* Coordinate Council-related projects and undertake policy research Draft high-quality briefings, minutes, correspondence and reports.
* Ensure all matters are handled with cultural sensitivity and organisational compliance.
What we're looking for
You are a proactive, relationship-driven professional who thrives in fast-paced environments, communicates confidently, and can work with a high level of discretion.
* Minimum 4 years' experience in executive support, governance or a similar role
* Strong understanding of governance frameworks, ideally within Aboriginal organisations or government
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
* High-level written communication skills
* Ability to travel extensively and represent the Chair professionally in diverse settings
* Degree in Law, Public Policy or Indigenous Studies (highly desirable)
