The position offers the chance to work on technical issues relating to chemical residues in Australian animal products and contribute to maintaining and improving market access for these exports.The branch you'll be joining negotiates technical standards with international trading partners, contributes to global food standard setting, and maintains technical information platforms.
The role involves working with internal experts and external stakeholders to address residue-related risks in products like meat, fish, dairy, eggs, and animal by-products.Key Responsibilities Provide technical advice on chemical residues in exported Australian animal products.
Conduct technical risk assessments regarding chemical residues.
Monitor changes in international residue standards and assist in developing responses for trade and food safety negotiations.
Contribute to the maintenance of the online database of importing country requirements (MICoR).
Assist in preparing ministerial and departmental briefings and correspondence.
Collaborate with stakeholders to manage chemical residue risks.
Support laboratory audits and assist in training staff as required.
What We're Looking For Knowledge and Experience Background in analytical chemistry, preferably related to pesticide, veterinary medicine, or environmental contaminant residues in food.
Experience in scientific program/project design and implementation.
Ability to interpret complex technical data and make well-informed recommendations.
Proven ability to write clear, evidence-based scientific documentation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Skills and Capabilities Excellent judgement and attention to detail.
Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to produce concise and technically sound reports.
Effective research and analytical skills, including the ability to summarise complex scientific material.
Strong stakeholder engagement and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications A tertiary qualification in agricultural or animal science, biological science, or chemistry is required.
