The Role
Due to continued growth and the award of many exciting new projects, a permanent full-time opportunity exists in our Perth office. Our WA team is currently supporting a number of major infrastructure projects including the Westport Planning Study, Tonkin Highway Extension, and GNH Fitzroy to GoGo Upgrade, all of which require a detailed appreciation of flood risk management.
This Senior role has opportunity to develop into a team Associate role managing a number of direct reports within one to two years.
As a Senior Flooding and Hydrology Engineer at BG&E, you will provide direct support the WA Regional Flooding and Hydrology Lead and be responsible for the project outcomes and technical work associated with flooding and hydrology for our broad range of projects. You will play a key role in conducting advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, assessing flood risk, and providing innovative solutions for flood management across a variety of sectors, including mining and resources, infrastructure and urban development. You will collaborate with BG&E’s multi-disciplinary teams and work directly with BG&E's clients and key stakeholders.
•Technical project work including:
oLead and manage Flood and Hydrology projects or packages as part of a multi-disciplinary project, ensuring the delivery of projects on time, within budget, and to appropriate standards.
oConduct flood risk assessments, analyse flood behaviour to support planning and regulatory approvals and the design of infrastructure projects.
oInterpret complex flood model results and communicate findings clearly to clients and stakeholders.
oProvide detailed flood risk management recommendations, including mitigation measures and sustainable design options.
oCoordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including local authorities, regulatory agencies, and clients, to ensure project objectives are met.
oPrepare and present reports, technical memoranda, and presentations.
oProvide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, including detailed review and feedback on technical work.
oImplement processes and practices that ensure high standards of work and stay up-to-date with the latest flood modelling techniques, technologies, and requirements.
oIdentify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in flood modelling practices and flood risk mitigation strategies.
•Project Management of Flooding and Hydrology Projects and managing packages and deliverables as the Flooding Lead for multi-disciplinary projects:
oAssisting in preparation of fee proposal and tender submissions including scope of works, budgets and completion of tender requirements.
oDeliver technical work for hydrologic studies and hydraulic analysis related to flooding and surface water management including flood modelling, mapping and report writing.
oSupport project management tasks for water and flooding projects, ensuring that budgets, timelines, and deliverables are met, while coordinating with junior staff as needed.
oCoordinate with other discipline leads, project managers, and teams to ensure smooth project execution in integrated design solutions.
About you
•You have strong technical knowledge with a passion for hydrology and flood risk management and are able to demonstrate:
oQualifications in Civil/Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science. Chartered Status is highly desirable.
oMore than 8 years’ experience in flood assessments, hydrology and hydraulic modelling in consulting practices in Australia (WA preferred).
oA skilled modeller with ability to develop and review complex hydrology and hydraulic models ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all technical aspects.
oExperience in undertaking hydrology assessments including technical understanding of the principles and approaches of Australian Rainfall and Runoff 2019, regional and local procedures.
oAn advanced understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling packages, such as RORB, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, and their advantages and limitations. Experience using 12d and DRAINS will also be highly considered.
oPractical experience in cross-drainage design, flood mitigation and management for major engineering projects in Australia.
oUnderstanding of flood policy, state legislation and approval pathways which guides our work.
oExperience on major infrastructure projects and experience and/or relationships with relevant State agencies will be favoured.
oStrong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to produce clear and meaningful reporting for communicating technical outcomes, presentations and present at client, stakeholder and community meetings.
