We have 34 member Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations providing support to over 65,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the state. We lead and support Aboriginal Community Control and the broader health and social services sector to deliver transformative health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities in Victoria. We are a centre of expertise, policy advice, training, innovation and leadership in Aboriginal health and wellbeing. And we'd love you to join us!

VACCHO promotes substantive equality for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position, classified under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act (2010). This employment opportunity is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About The Role

Strategic Project Lead, Aboriginal Cancer Coordination is a key role in the Cancer Journey team within the Population Health Unit. You will play a critical role in enhancing cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. You will use your exceptional communication skills to act as a cancer liaison officer, liaising between government departments, cancer agencies and health support services. Your priorities will also include completing the Model of Care and Framework for Aboriginal Cancer Coordination to improve the delivery and accessibility of mainstream cancer services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as assisting six ACCHO's to employ suitable people into six new cancer journey related roles across the state.

Essential Skills/experiences

To be successful in this role, you will be a competent and confident Aboriginal/Torres Strait Island project lead who has worked in the cancer/health care sector for 5+ years. You will have sound judgement, a pragmatic, organised approach to project management, and strong communication skills. You are a team player (sometimes it's all hands‐on‐deck across the broader team!) who also thrives on working independently to achieve your goals.

We are looking for someone who has strong interpersonal and stakeholder relationship management skills. You will have a passion for making a difference in health outcomes for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the resilience to keep the focus and passion ongoing.
