Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a motivated and community-focused John Flynn Place Coordinator for a full-time, fixed-term role for 6 months, commencing around 12 January 2026 (or as negotiated with the successful applicant).
About the Role
John Flynn Place Museum is a significant cultural asset that honours the pioneers of remote medicine, aviation and communication. As the Coordinator, you will oversee daily operations, lead staff and volunteers, maintain exhibitions, deliver high-quality visitor experiences, and help with programs and events that promote Cloncurry’s history.

- Competitive salary – QLD ( Stream A) Level 4-5- $77,000-$86,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience) + Superannuation

Key Responsibilities
Museum Development
- Maintain museum displays and exhibition pieces.
- Develop temporary exhibitions and plan launch events such as Wine & Cheese nights and community gatherings.
- Collaborate with Council facilities to develop an annual exhibition calendar.
- Identify grant and funding opportunities for museum development.
- Maintain the museum catalogue and assist in object rotations and exhibition updates.
- Build networks with regional and state museums and cultural organisations.
Operations & Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service and act as the first contact for enquiries.
- Supervise and support part time, full-time, casual staff and volunteers.
- Manage POS operations, cash handling, banking and retail stock.
- Maintain museum gardens, surrounds, and cleaning schedules.
- Prepare accurate visitor statistics and operational reports (monthly, quarterly, yearly).
- Conduct guided tours, group visits, and assist with community events.
Leadership & Administration
- Develop and implement policies and procedures.
- Monitor budgets and manage operational expenditure.
- Represent Council on the Friends of John Flynn Place Committee.
- Collaborate with Cloncurry Unearthed, Library Services and Community Development teams on shared initiatives.
About You
You will be a positive, proactive person who enjoys working with the community and delivering excellent visitor experiences.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- The ability to lead, mentor and supervise staff and volunteers
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Problem-solving capability and initiative
- Sound computer literacy and experience with POS/cash handling
- A willingness to learn about museum operations, exhibitions and local history
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders
Mandatory Requirements
- Current Police Clearance
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence
- Positive Notice Working with Children Blue Card
Desirable Qualifications
- Qualifications in Tourism, Museum Services, Arts Management, Humanities, Education, or similar
- Experience in the tourism, museum, arts or cultural sectors
- Experience in coordinating events, exhibitions or community programs
