The Opportunity
The Sexual Harm and Family Violence Counsellor will provide expert psychological clinical appointments to the students and staff of the University community, while also providing expert advice to the University community, especially as a member of various high-level committees, working groups and areas. The position reports to the Director, Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS). The Sexual Harm and Family Violence Counsellor will be an important role within the CAPS team, which sits within the Student Experience area of Monash University.
As the successful candidate, some of your responsibilities will be:
* Holding and managing a caseload, and providing direct trauma-informed counselling support to victim-survivors of sexual harm and/or family violence.
* Providing urgent one-on-one counselling sessions at the request of the University Health Services (UHS) triage or mental health nurse, prioritising these responses over all non-clinical activities.
* Providing practical expert advice in the area of sexual harm and family violence to senior management, including the Safer Community Unit and CARE Service, to help inform the response to highly-complex individuals and cases.
* Attending as a permanent member of the University's Respect at Monash Advisory Committee in order to provide subject matter expertise in the area of sexual harm and family violence.
* Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency: Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA), or membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
* Post-graduate qualifications in psychology or social work and demonstrated ability and experience of working independently with minimal day to day guidance.
* Knowledge of and experience in working clinically with a range of evidence-based, trauma-informed psychological interventions that demonstrate efficacy in a short-term clinical work context.
* Substantial experience with and knowledge of community-based primary and tertiary mental health services and referral procedures.
