We have anopportunity for a Senior Associate to join our Dispute Resolution -Public Law team in our Canberra office, working with a highlyregarded Partner. This role will suit a lawyer that has significantexperience in privacy and freedom of information (FOI) matters forthe Commonwealth government.

We have adedicated team of experienced Commonwealth Government partners andlawyers who understand government and are excited to replicate thefirm’s success with our existing and long-standingappointments to the Victorian and New South Wales State Governmentpanels.
You will sitwithin our national Dispute Resolution section, which is comprisedof around 115 team members nationally. We provide the full range oflegal services to our public sector clients, bringing both deepexpertise and a fresh perspective to their matters, and leveragingour leading and established practices across insurance andcommercial law. We partner with clients at all levels ofgovernment, with key clients including the Commonwealth Government,local councils, the Victorian and New South Wales State Governmentsand other large corporate entities.
You will workon a breadth of matters in the public law space, including (but notlimited to):
* advisingon data protection and retention;
* developing privacycompliant schemes that involve digital products and ITinfrastructure;
* preparing Privacy ImpactAssessments and advising on and drafting privacy policies andprivacy guidelines;
* advisingon FOI matters and preparing submissions to the Office of theAustralian Information Commissioner; and
* actingin merits and judicial review proceedings.
Aboutyou
You will ideallyhave the following knowledge, skills and experience:
* between5 and 8 years of post-admission experience working in or forthe public sector/service on Commonwealth governmentmatters;
* significant experiencein privacy and FOI matters;
* aninterest in contributing to the growth and success of ourCommonwealth government practice;
* excellent legal draftingand analytical skills, with outstanding attention todetail;
* strongverbal and written communication skills;
* theability to work autonomously as well as part of a supportiveand collaborative team; and
* theability to confidently run matters, as well as the ability tohandle a busy workload with competing timelines.
