Group Financial Controller

A rare opportunity has become available for an experienced Group Financial Controller to join a well-established and highly regarded organisation with operations across sport, hospitality and construction.
This is a broad and influential leadership role suited to a technically strong finance professional who enjoys variety, responsibility and the chance to make a genuine impact across multiple entities. It would particularly suit a CA or CPA qualified accountant with a background in tax and business services who is looking to transition into a senior corporate finance position.
The Opportunity
Reporting to senior leadership, you will take ownership of the finance function across a diverse group of entities, while helping to strengthen processes, lift capability within the team and build a positive, high-performing culture.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strong technical expertise and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, while fostering a professional and supportive culture
* Maintain strong internal control processes, particularly around payment processing
* Prepare and/or review tax reconciliations for trusts and companies
* Prepare and/or review consolidated statutory financial statements for audit
* Review GST workpapers and prepare and lodge BAS for multiple entities
* Manage the external audit process
* Oversee month-end close and board reporting across multiple entities
* Lead the annual budget process
* Manage salary packaging arrangements
* Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
* CA or CPA qualification
* 8+ years’ accounting experience
* Strong technical accounting skills across financial reporting, tax and compliance
* Experience with trust taxation
* A sound understanding of accounting in the construction sector
* The ability to lead a diverse team and earn credibility quickly
* Strong communication skills and the ability to deal confidently with stakeholders at all levels
* A proactive, hands-on and solutions-focused approach
