The Opportunity
The Boeing MQ-28 is a low cost, semi-attritable, unmanned aerial system in development by an agile Boeing Australia team. Boeing Defence Australia is looking for a Engineering Manager to join the MQ-28 Program. As the Engineering Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for execution of all engineering aspects of the program. This includes the engineering management of the aircraft design, production support, test, operations and support.
This role is a core member of the ATS Program leadership team. The role will report to the Boeing Defence Australia Engineering Director but also be responsible to the US based Autonomous Aviation and Technology Chief Engineer for broader program alignment. We are looking for someone who is an excellent communicator who can engage and motivate a diverse and geographically dispersed teams. We operate in an environment with multiple Boeing and Commonwealth entities contributing to the program, which gives you a unique experience to manage how the team works, how the team grows, how they are developed and how we achieve the program goals and strategy. We need someone who is team oriented, influential, likes a challenge and operates well in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
We work in a highly flexible environment, giving you the ability to determine how best to structure your working arrangement - be that partly from home or mostly from an office setting. The role is preferably to be based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Amberley where the majority of the Engineering team is based.
**Responsibilities**:
- Support execution of overall ATS program objectives as a member of the core ATS Leadership Team
- Engineering management and organizational execution
- Managing accountability to engineering performance to plan
- Engineering teams construct, staffing, resources, and preparedness
- Coordination and prioritization of management across projects
- Supporting execution teams through collaboration, removing roadblocks, coordination up to the Program Management
- Employing efficiencies for execution while maintaining key engineering principles including safety and quality
- Manage team execution to cost and schedule baselines.
- Coordinate interdependencies and handoffs between teams
- Consistent metrics, reporting, communication, tools and processes across the entire engineering team.
- Lead and leverage cross-subsidiary teams, relationships, capabilities and resources to ensure timely decision making, issue resolution and help needed
- Develop and inspire front line leaders
- Be an advocate for diversity and inclusion and be actively involved in leading change
Experience/Qualifications
- Formal Qualifications in Engineering or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated track record of leading the successful engineering execution of large and complex projects
- A proven excellent communicator who can engage and motivate diverse and geographically dispersed teams
- Experience interfacing with senior Australian Defence Force personnel in a strategic capacity (desirable)
- Leadership experience within a matrix organisation (desirable)
