The Opportunity
An exciting and rare opportunity exists to become part of a well‐managed, motivated team. Our production model is focused on high animal welfare and environmentally sustainable farming practices.
Responsibilities
* Selection of breeding stock and/or pigs for sale
* Supervision and participation in daily inspection of livestock, ensuring animals are appropriately fed, watered and environmental parameters are fulfilled
* Supervision of a less experienced Stockperson, working hand in hand
* Ensuring compromised animals are individually assessed, identified, treated and recorded in accordance with the Company Herd Health Plan and the industry Model Code of Practice
* Euthanise sick or injured stock in a humane manner and in accordance with the Model Code of Practice for Animal Welfare – Pigs 3rd edition
* Conduct post‐mortem examinations of deceased stock and report findings
* Collect boar semen at an artificial insemination laboratory
* Undertake processing duties within the artificial insemination laboratory
* Supervise and participate in the mating of animals via individually supervised mating or through artificial insemination
* Supervise the birthing process, including the ability to unobtrusively internally assess females during parturition to minimise stillbirths
* Participate in company/industry training sessions and workshops as required
About You
* 3–5 years of experience in a similar position
* Certificate III in Agriculture or a bachelor's degree
* Problem‐solving abilities
* Good communication skills
