To thrive in this Senior Finance Advisor role, you will need to demonstrate the following: Undertake various tasks related to the production of financial reports and consolidated financial statements and address financial reporting issues to ensure departmental compliance with relevant legislation, government policies, Australian Accounting Standards and other pronouncements. Monitor and undertake reviews of the effectiveness of various financial reporting internal controls. For example, general ledger reconciliations and other data integrity checks and initiate investigative and follow up action as required. Develop and review policies, practices and procedures to identify business improvement opportunities and internal control improvements, ensure appropriate reengineering of work practices and use of contemporary technology. Maintain personal expertise in financial reporting prescribed legislation, accounting standards and government policies. Provide expertise and advice to departmental officers in relation to the application of accounting policies impacting on financial reporting and the design and implementation of information systems with emphasis on financial accounting processes in support of the departmental financial management framework. Financial reporting deliverables arising from Machinery of Government changes including accurate preparation and validation of balances for inclusion in departmental financial statements. Review and approve month-end journals relating to audit fees and revenue recognition, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with accounting standards. Manage lease accounting processes within the SAP S/4 Hana REFX module and provide expert advice and support to business units on lease treatment in accordance with applicable accounting standards (e.g. AASB 16). Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
