About the Role

We're looking for a Youth Counsellor (or Graduate) who is skilled, compassionate, and passionate about working alongside young people.

In this diverse and rewarding role, you'll be a key point of contact for young people accessing headspace Esperance, offering brief interventions, psycho-social assessments, therapeutic support, and group facilitation. You'll work closely with a multidisciplinary team and have the opportunity to contribute to outreach, school engagement, and community events.

Key responsibilities include:

* Conducting initial screening, intake and psychosocial assessments
* Delivering evidence-based brief interventions and counselling
* Supporting goal setting and care planning alongside young people
* Facilitating therapeutic or psychoeducational group programs
* Participating in case reviews and multidisciplinary care planning
* Maintaining accurate case notes and client records
* Supporting young people with co-occurring needs (AOD, work & study, etc.)
* Promoting mental health literacy through school and community engagement

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, values connection, and is looking to grow their clinical skills in a supportive, regional setting.

What's on Offer

* Full-time, permanent role based in Esperance
* Salary: $76, super + regional allowance
* Relocation assistance available via Rural Health West
* Generous salary packaging to increase your take-home pay
* Professional development and training opportunities
* Supportive and collaborative team environment
* A rare chance to make a real impact in the lives of young people in the Esperance community

You'll Need

* Qualification in social work, psychology, community services, counselling, youth work, mental health nursing, or similar (including diploma) – graduates encouraged to apply
* Demonstrated experience supporting young people with mild to moderate mental health concerns
* Ability to build trust and rapport with young people, including those with complex needs
* Experience in delivering brief therapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, IPT, family-based work)
* Understanding of youth mental health, engagement barriers, and local service systems
* Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
* Current Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance (within 3 months), and WA driver's licence

Next Steps

If you're shortlisted, we'll give you a call to discuss your experience and may invite you to an interview (in-person or online).

To apply, please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your interest in the role and how your experience aligns.

We strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants and those with diverse cultural backgrounds or lived experience of mental health challenges.
