Position Information
Tenambit Public School is part of the Maitland Learning Community, situated in Maitland. A diverse and inclusive school, we focus on the individual learner, striving to bring out the best in each and every child.
Built on Wonnarua Land with approximately 30% of students identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Cultural connection, knowledge and perspectives is evident throughout the school and strong authentic cultural programs enable the sharing of culture, knowledge and traditions, with our school community.
In 2025, our 16 classes comprised of 13 mainstream classes and 3 Inclusion and Support classes. The Deaf Blind class will be established in 2026 and will be an addition to our Inclusion and Support team.

Learning at Tenambit Public School is enriched by Explicit Teaching practices, strong transition to school programs (CUBS), targeted interventions including a School Chaplain and the FAST (Families, Agencies, School Together) Program in partnership with the Newcastle University.
In 2025, the school is supported by an active parent community, led by the re-established Parent and Citizens group and connections throughout the wider Tenambit Community.
Specific Selection Criteria
* Approval to teach Vision and Hearing (Primary).
* Knowledge of the NSW Syllabus K-12 and an understanding of the Literacy and Numeracy Progressions in meeting the personalised learning and differentiation needs of students with hearing and/or vision loss.
* Demonstrated capacity and/or willingness to engage in professional learning and upskilling using tactile signing, hand-over-hand signing, Braille, Auslan, Deafblind fingerspelling and/or haptics.
* Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a proven capacity to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and external agencies to meet the needs of students with hearing and/or vision loss.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
