As a radio operator you must be community minded who can show empathy and compassion towards people in distress. Good reading, writing and communications skills are necessary. An ability to be calm and precise under pressure is important. We work as a team and support is only a phone call away. You will be taught how to use technology to listen for, and respond to, distress, urgency and safety signals. Once suitably trained and qualified, radio operators may coordinate emergency response with operational staff and stakeholders such as WA Police and Department of Dire and Emergency Services. You will broadcast weather, local navigational and other information on local channels. No previous radio or telecommunication experience is necessary and all training will be provided. * Time Required Radio Operators currently do a four-hour shift at least once a month, logging vessels on and off and responding to distress calls. We operate on weekends and public holidays from 0600 to 1800 (6am to 6pm) broken into three shifts. Shifts are also available during the week.
* Training MR Member training Operational Induction and AIMS Awareness online. On completion, you will be enrolled into the Shore Based Radio Operator Training via e-Acadamy and face to face training for your Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency
