Overview
Health Clinician – Perinatal Infant Mental Health (PIMH) role with NSW Health based in Bathurst, NSW. Permanent Part Time position, with a range of classifications including Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2, Counsellor level 3, Occupational Therapist Level 3, Senior Psychologist, Social Worker level 3, Welfare Officer level 3. Location options include Orange, Bathurst, or Dubbo, NSW. Applications close 12 February 2026 – 11:59pm. This role is part of Western NSW Local Health District and involves a specialist Mental Health service across Western NSW with virtual links to other PIMH clinicians.
Role purpose: support parents with complex mental illness and infants during a critical developmental window, build robust therapeutic relationships, and contribute to improvements in maternal mental health and parent–infant attachment. The role includes clinic sessions, telehealth, outreach travel, home visits, and group activities in collaboration with internal and external partners. You will work within a values-driven, culturally respectful team that prioritises equity, trauma-informed care, and early intervention.
Responsibilities
* Conduct intake assessments with pregnant or postnatal parents.
* Complete comprehensive mental health, risk, and psychosocial assessments, including screening for trauma, domestic violence, and parent–infant relational health.
* Deliver short-term therapeutic sessions via face-to-face contact, home visits, or telehealth.
* Coordinate care with GPs, midwives, child and family health nurses, Aboriginal health services, and NGOs; participate in team meetings, case reviews, and case conferences.
* Contribute to collaborative care planning and reviews.
* Occasional travel to rural communities for outreach clinics or follow-up care for existing clients.
* Work with the target population of pregnant and postnatal women, their infants, and families (up to 2 years postpartum).
