The company operates shipbuilding and sustainment facilities in Australia, the USA, Philippines and Vietnam.
Austal Australia is delivering multiple naval shipbuilding and sustainment programs for the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Border Force and the Department of Defence, employing approximately 1,000 people in facilities in located Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA)

We are on our path towards becoming the Commonwealths "Strategic Shipbuilder" in the West, aiming to be in contract for the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA).
Join us for this exciting opportunity to be part of continuous naval shipbuilding, contributing and significant work for the Australian Defence Force.
The SSA will establish an overarching program which enables the design and build of vessels at the Henderson Shipyard.
The objective of the SSA is to possess the capacity and capability to initially deliver Landing Craft Medium & Heavy for the Australian Army in supporting continuous naval shipbuilding in WA.
The SSA is about establishing the capability within the Henderson Precinct, and Western Australia, to continuously build vessels for the Commonwealth.
It will be led by Austal, and will require the engagement of local industry, supply chain and workforce to be successful.

About the Opportunity
The Financial Controller is a key position within the Finance team, 'delivering together'.
You'll be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the SSA organisation, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supporting strategic financial planning.
This role plays a critical part in compliance and financial analysis to support business decision-making and contributes to the Budgeting and Forecasting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Build and maintain strong relationships with Commonwealth stakeholders to ensure timely review, approval, and payment of claims and foster collaborative partnerships with key subcontractors
Collaborate with management to analyse and report on financial performance, including major contracts, business unit profitability and cash flow
Oversee accuracy and completeness of financial reporting
Prepare and review financial commentary and variance analysis
Manage monthly reporting on WIP, debtors and creditors
Reconcile monthly overhead rates across defence and related programs
Prepare statutory financial statements and disclosures in accordance with A-IFRS
Manage month end reporting and review balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries
Maintain the SSA Financial Management Plan to document financial rules and processes

Skills and Experience
Finance, Accounting or other Business Degree
CA or CPA certificate
Excellent analytical, organisation and communication skills
High attention to detail
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations and reporting standards
10+ years experience in a variety of Finance functions with at least 3 years experience in a leadership role

Due to the Security Clearance required for this position, applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance through the Australian Department of Defence.
