As a Horticulturist, you'll help maintain and improve the City's parks and open spaces in the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Garden located at Benowa, which spans over 33 hectares of high‐profile gardens, maintained lawn areas, and associated infrastructure. The gardens attract over 300,000 visitors annually and are one of the City's premium destinations. About The Role
As a Horticulturist, you will work as part of a supportive team responsible for the day‐to‐day maintenance and improvement of the Gold Coast Botanic Garden within the parks, landscaped areas, recreation spaces, and road networks across the City of Gold Coast. This role contributes directly to the presentation, safety and usability of the City's open spaces for the community.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake general park & garden maintenance and improvement activities, including planting, pruning, mulching, hedging, weed control, green waste removal and herbicide application.
* Operate horticultural equipment and tools such as leaf blowers, chainsaws and pole saws in accordance with safety guidelines and procedures.
* Carry out work in line with Council policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
* Maintain a high standard of work by following designated work practices and team expectations.
* Contribute positively to a cooperative team environment and demonstrate behaviours aligned to Council's High Performance Principles.
* Communicate progress, issues or hazards to the Supervisor via the Leading Hand to support work planning and prioritisation.
* Participate in training and multi‐skilling opportunities to build capability and support continuous improvement.
* Complete required administrative tasks, including timesheets and basic quantity calculations and horticultural record‐keeping requirements, e.g. data entry.
* Actively participate in toolbox talks and team meetings.
We're Looking For People Who Have
* Experience in horticulture, Parks & Gardens maintenance and/or Botanic Gardens with a Certificate 3 in Horticulture/Parks & Gardens highly desirable, or a strong willingness to learn.
* Ability to safely operate horticultural tools and equipment.
* A strong focus on teamwork, safety and quality of work.
* Willingness to follow procedures, policies and safe work practices.
* Good communication skills and a reliable, practical approach to work.
