Mechanic - McElroy TracStar Specialist
Pilbara, WA (FIFO 2/1) - Silverstone working on BHP Iron Ore Projects
Silverstone is looking for a motivated Diesel/Plant Mechanic to join our specialist team maintaining our fleet of McElroy TracStar welding machines across BHP Iron Ore projects in the Pilbara. As the Mechanic, you will be servicing, troubleshooting, and performing preventative maintenance of our McElroy fleet. You'll be working closely with a highly respected industry expert, learning a highly specialised skillset in a niche but growing area with strong long-term prospects.
Job Duties:
- Learning the ins and outs of McElroy TracStar machines from an industry expert
- Progressively taking on servicing, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance tasks
- Supporting dewatering and pipeline projects across Newman, Jimblebar, and South Flank
- Setting up bores, welding pipelines with air and scour valves
- Setting up pumps and pipe work for pump stations, aligning pumps
- Reading drawings and ordering parts as needed
- Maintaining equipment and training in data logger use
- Travelling to site on a 2/1 FIFO roster with accommodation in BHP camps or Newman town
- Working within a small, tight-knit, high-performing team
Key requirements:
- Qualified Diesel/Plant Mechanic or similar trade background
- Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and electronic control systems
- Strong aptitude for learning and problem-solving - this role is as much about developing into a specialist as it is about mechanical skill, expert training will be provided to ensure your success
- Willingness to travel regionally across Pilbara/WA as required
- Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively within a small, high-performing team
- Calm nature and good communication skills
- Previous experience with McElroy TracStar machines or HDPE fusion equipment (desirable)
- Familiarity with dewatering or pipeline projects (desirable)
- Experience working on BHP sites (desirable)
- Strong safety focus and ability to work within mining standards
- Minimum 3 years of mining experience
- White Card
- Current mannual driver's licence (mandatory)
- Full Australian working rights
- Ability to pass a pre-employment mining medical and drug & alcohol test
