About the role:
Focus Minerals is currently seeking a
Manager: Work Health, Safety
& Training
tojoin them on a
4/3, 4/3, 8/6 roster
based at site. You will be accountable for establishing and maintaining a WHS Management System to develop and implement initiatives that continually improve workplace health and safety performance for the benefit of all Focus stakeholders. In this role, you will also be accountable for ensuring company compliance with all WHS legislation, regulations and obligations issued by federal and state agencies.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Establish, implement, and maintain the site Work Health, Safety and Training (WHST) Management System, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements, and organisational standards.
* Ensure compliance with all applicable WHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and statutory obligations relating to health, safety, hygiene, and training for the operation.
* Provide authoritative technical advice to site leadership on WHS obligations, Principal Hazards, risk controls, and regulatory expectations.
* Lead hazard identification, risk assessment, and control assurance processes, including Principal Hazard Management Plans and verification of critical controls.
* Manage the site audit, inspection, and assurance program, including compliance monitoring, performance reviews, trend analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Lead incident management processes, including reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and statutory notifications where required.
* Develop, implement, and oversee site induction, training, and competency programs to ensure safe, compliant, and consistent work practices for employees and contractors.
* Develop and maintain emergency response, crisis management, and business continuity arrangements, including training, exercises, and periodic reviews.
* Manage Fitness for Work programs, including fatigue management, alcohol and drug management, occupational hygiene monitoring, and exposure assessments.
* Oversee injury and illness management processes, including early intervention, rehabilitation, and return-to-work coordination.
* Maintain WHS documentation, records, and reporting systems to meet internal governance and external regulatory requirements.
* Liaise with regulators, government agencies, emergency services, and other external stakeholders as required for compliance, reporting, and assurance activities.
* Monitor WHST performance data, analyse trends, and provide clear reporting and recommendations to site management.
* Promote clear WHS leadership, accountability, and safety culture across all levels of the operation.
* Provide WHS advisory support to site management and initiate changes to systems, procedures, or equipment to manage risk and improve performance.
* Manage WHS resources, budget, and capability, including coaching and mentoring WHS personnel.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
* Formal Health and Safety Qualifications and industry experience.
* Manual Drivers Licence.
* Minimum 10 years working in heavy industries including minimum of 5 in mining.
* Senior Site Executive certificate.
* Medical/ Emergency response qualifications are desirable.
* Training in Underground Search and Rescue (including BG4 training) is desirable.
* Demonstrated knowledge of relevant WHS legal and other requirements (Federal and state).
* Demonstrated leadership in the WHS field.
* The ability to work at both strategic and operational levels.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and can consistently demonstrate strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to influence and/or persuade others.
* Ability to influence without authority.
* Ability to work autonomously and flexibly.
* Provide guidance, advice, and support to members of the WHS Team to assist in their development.
