Bring legacy to life for the future of Queensland and the world #DPIcareers

DPI plays a vital role in enabling the production and protection of food sustainability and security for Queenslanders and the world. Today, that's more critical than ever.

As a Soil Conservation Officer, you will provide soil conservation support to projects, restoring productivity and enhancing the environmental sustainability of Queensland's extensive beef industries. Just imagine what you could achieve with us #passionandpurpose

The Opportunity

* With the support of the Senior Soil Conservation Officer, lead and execute the "Developing Innovative Remediation Training (DIRT)" project which aims to develop a training pathway and resources for emerging soil conservation officers, create a soil conservation Community of Practice and mentor you into a field ready soil conservation officer.
* Ensure project deliverables meet high standards and strategically influence industry adoption, showcasing exemplary project management and governance processes appropriate for a leading RD&E organisation.
* Provide soil conservation support to projects including Reefplan Grazing Extension Support Project, GRASS (grazing resilience and sustainable solutions) and Grazing Futures Prepare and Prosper (https://futurebeef.com.au/) in north and central Queensland, restoring productivity and enhancing the environmental sustainability of Queensland's extensive beef industries.
* Estimate runoff from agricultural catchments and design erosion control structures using the principles of open channel hydraulics.
* Describe, classify, interpret, and communicate soil, landform, geology, and geomorphology features, particularly in relation to landscape processes.
* Utilise databases, spreadsheets, RPAS (remotely piloted aerial systems), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to capture, analyse, and manage land resource data.
* Collaborate with red meat producers to identify, evaluate and implement strategies to improve land management outcomes.
* Cultivate and sustain productive partnerships within DPI, across government, producers and industry: e.g. Meat and Livestock Australia, Natural Resource Management bodies, AgForce, universities and other stakeholders across the state and nationally.
* Travel for extended periods across Queensland's regions. Field work, e.g. ground surveys, may be physically demanding and will be required during the summer heat.

What are we looking for?

* It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Agriculture, Civil Engineering, Soil Science or Environmental Science from a recognised tertiary institution.
* For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.

The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.

* A current 'C' class drivers' licence

You may also have

* Agricultural extension experience.
* Remote Pilots Licence and Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate.
