Shift Test Engineer - Mechanical (U.S Deployments)

To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking a skilled Shift Test Engineer- Mechanical to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

Placements are available in August 2026 and will be approximately 134 weeks in duration.
Responsibilities
* Providing subject matter expertise in the design and operations of nuclear steam raising plants (NSRP) in nuclear-powered submarines.
* Independently performing Shift Test Engineer (STE) assignments in the preparation for and accomplishment of NSRP testing, operations, and maintenance, by using earned authority to direct HMAS Stirling personnel and Ship's Force in accomplishing testing operations.
* Leading formal pre-shift training and briefing events with Ship's Force and HMAS Stirling personnel to ensure sufficient levels of readiness for the day's planned NSRP testing and operations.
* Performing valve and switch line-up checks, in conjunction with Ship's Force during NSRP maintenance, testing, and operations.
* When required, perform the duties of a Shift Test Supervisor, overseeing a subordinate Shift Test Engineer, to provide broader operations direction off-hull, based on the complexity of the test program.
* When required, perform functions as an Assistant Chief Test Engineer, identifying retest requirements after repair, coordinating between HMAS Stirling departments to ensure the overall success of the NSRP test program.
Eligibility Criteria
* Minimum Education: Bachelor of Engineering (any discipline) – ideally Marine/Naval, Nuclear, or Mechanical
* Formal training in a nuclear discipline and exposure to nuclear technology in either a work or educational setting
* Experience within the defence industry or on submarines (desirable)
* The ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 defence clearance
* During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.
* At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.
