Our organisation The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) is the Australian Government's primary authority on radiation protection and nuclear safety. Our purpose is to protect the Australian people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation, through understanding risks, best practice regulation, research, policy, services, partnerships and engaging with the community. Section overview The Australian Clinical Dosimetry Service (ACDS) is a dosimetry audit service offered by ARPANSA to Australian and New Zealand radiation oncology facilities. The ACDS was launched in 2010 and delivers a world-class radiotherapy dosimetry audit program to private and public customers on a cost recovery basis, where the client pays for the services. The audit program assesses the dosimetry of external beam radiotherapy, improving patient safety by reducing systemic dosimetric risk to the patient through remote and on-site audits of the radiation delivered. The ACDS collaborates with the Primary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory and Medical Imaging section, sharing access to a range of ionising radiation sources and dosimetry equipment that supports the Australian primary standards for absorbed dose and air kerma, calibration services for dosimetry equipment, and dosimetry audit services. The ACDS provides a comprehensive suite of dosimetry audits for modern radiotherapy techniques and treatment platforms that meets the Radiation Oncology Alliance Practice Standards, Radiation Oncology Health Program Grant Scheme and TROG Cancer Research criteria for independent dosimetric comparison/audit.
