What you will do as the Senior Data Scientist
Senior Data Scientists at the ACCC play a pivotal role in applying advanced analytics and artificial intelligence to support investigations and improve ways of working. They are intellectually curious, thrive on solving novel problems, and focus on delivering insights that directly inform decision-making. These professionals often juggle multiple projects, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to translate complex business challenges into data-driven solutions.
You will:
* Collaborate with teams to define business problems and translate them into data questions.
* Clean, merge, and transform data from diverse sources; apply statistical, AI, and machine learning techniques to generate insights or build solutions.
* Create static and interactive visualisations tailored to different audiences; clearly communicate technical findings through reports, presentations, and discussions.
* Build strong relationships across the agency, mentor junior data professionals, and contribute to team-wide capability-building initiatives.
About you
In order to succeed in the role, you will have:
* Demonstrated experience leading a team or similar role in a fast-paced and large complex people-centred organisation.
* Proficiency in a broad range of data acquisition, processing, statistical, AI and machine learning techniques, including the ability to review the use of these techniques by others.
* Experience with one or more analytical programming languages (e.g., R, Python).
* Highly developed problem-solving skills. A well-developed ability to define business problems, and to derive accurate and relevant insights from a broad range of data to meet a wide variety of complex use cases.
