The Opportunity
C2O are seeking a Senior Payroll Officer to join our team. This role will be responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of high-volume weekly payrolls, ensuring full compliance with Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs), awards, taxation and legislative requirements. This hands-on role works closely with the Payroll Manager as their primary support and is expected to develop into a capable backup, working towards capability to run payroll independently. The position will also take ownership of key payroll administration functions and play an active role in the organisations new payroll system rollout.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare, process and review high-volume weekly payrolls with accuracy.
* Manage end-to-end employee onboarding and offboarding payroll processes, ensuring all setups, terminations and final pay calculations are completed accurately and on time.
* Own and manage the payroll mailbox, triaging and responding to queries from employees and managers in a professional and timely manner.
* Prepare and submit employer liability payments including superannuation, payroll tax and workers' compensation.
* Maintain up-to-date and confidential employee payroll records.
* Ensure compliance with EBAs, awards, tax requirements and company policies.
* Assist with audits, reconciliations, reporting and payroll data analysis.
* Actively support the rollout of the new payroll system, including testing, data validation and process documentation.
* Assist with Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting requirements.
* Collaborate with HR, Finance and the Payroll Manager to ensure seamless operations.
* Act as backup for the Payroll Manager during leave periods, with the capability to independently manage all payroll functions end-to-end.
About You
Our ideal candidate will bring proven payroll experience, ideally within construction or an EBA-driven environment—along with strong knowledge of payroll legislation, awards and compliance. They will be confident managing high-volume weekly payrolls, proficient in systems (Dayforce highly regarded) and Microsoft Office and possess excellent time management, communication and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.
