Purpose
This position will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality food service and professional,
effective, and efficient operation of the commercial kitchen at the Mitchell Park Sports and
Community Centre. The primary objective of the Commercial Kitchen Assistant is to create
high level standards of cuisine from the menu. Assisting the Commercial Kitchen Lead in the
maintenance of cuisine concepts and standards for food preparation and presentation.
Leading and coordinating kitchen operations, ensuring compliance, innovation and cost
efficiency.
Key Deliverables
* Assist the Commercial Kitchen Lead in food operations at Mitchell Park Sports and
Community Centre for City of Marion.
* Provide leadership that supports a positive kitchen culture focused on safety,
teamwork, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.
* Ensure that all food handling safety legislative and regulations are met and adhered
to at the facility.
* Set up and maintain the commercial kitchen for efficient operations (procedures,
equipment, maintenance).
* Prepare food to the highest possible standard and in a timely manner for our
customers, ensuring appealing food presentation.
* Deliver catering requirements as required.
* Assist the Commercial Kitchen Lead in monitoring stock levels and place orders in line
with budgets, ensuring adherence to budget and quality standards.
* Contribute to menu development and pricing in conjunction with the Commercial
Kitchen Lead.
* Monitor and report on kitchen performance and contribute to strategic planning.
* Lead compliance audits
* Communicate with the Commercial Kitchen Lead, Facility Manager and all venue staff
in a professional and positive manner to foster a good rapport, promote team spirit
and ensure effective two-way communication.
* Log security incidents and accidents with Facility Manager and Commercial kitchen
lead.

Essential criteria
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
* Previous experience in a hospitality, food, and beverage environment.
* Food preparation and presentation skills
* Chef or Cook, minimum Cert 3 Commercial Cookery
* Leadership skills.
* Experience in high-volume or fast-paced kitchen environments.
* Proven ability to manage stock, reduce waste, and work within set budgets.
* Knowledge of allergen management and special dietary requirements.
* Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks.
* Excellent time management abilities
* Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes.
* Ability to prepare spaces for hire or event use, which may include extensive manual
handling tasks.
* Ability to work in a small team environment.

* Ability to build strong work relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and gain
cooperation.

* Be familiar with property safety, first aid and fire and emergency procedures.
* Experience working in a sports or community facility environment.
* Experience operating in a busy customer service environment with face-to-face
communication.
* Experience in procurement and supplier contract management
* Knowledge of sustainability practices in food service
* Experience with Microsoft Office suite software and computer literacy.

Standard conditions
* Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance (will be arranged by the City of
Marion)
* Satisfactory completion of applicable Medical Assessment (will be arranged by the
City of Marion)
* Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,
with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa.
* Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations and
apply "Think Safe Live Well" philosophy.
* Embrace ethical and moral behavior and report any suspected instances of fraud
and/or corruption in accordance with Fraud and Corruption Management and the
Code of Conduct.

* The incumbent will perform other duties as required.

* Rostered out of hours' work including weekend and evenings will be required.
