Position Information

The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

About the Role

School Learning Support Officers (Student Health Support) provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. The main focus of the School Learning Support Officers (Student Health Support) is the performance of health support as required so that students can participate in and access educational programs.

Essential Requirements

- Working with Children Check Clearance
- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education to undertake first aid, administration of medications and health care procedures training.

Hunter River Community School is an established K-12 School for Specific Purpose (SSP), catering for the complex needs of 73 students with a moderate to severe intellectual disability and associated conditions. As a result of ongoing school evaluation and reference to educational research, our school priority areas focus on improved learning outcomes for students through, innovative student learning programs, quality teaching and leadership initiatives and enhancing supportive community engagement and participation opportunities. The student body is diverse, with young people living with medical, behavioural and sensory complexities. The school has a dedicated staff which is effectively supported by our parent body and local community.

Specific Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
- Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
- Effective communication skills.

Special Notes

There is one full-time position and one part-time position available.
