About the Opportunity: Shaping the Player Experience
As part of our continued investment in emerging talent, Gameloft Brisbane is launching this Screen Queensland‐supported internship to provide hands‐on, real‐world experience within a professional game development environment. Unlike traditional academic projects, this program places you at the center of live production cycles.
You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams, contributing to active projects while gaining exposure to the industry‐standard tools, professional workflows, and "secret sauce" that make Gameloft a global leader. Throughout the internship, you will be supported by:

As an Intern Game Designer, you are the bridge between a wild idea and a functional, fun experience. You will play an integral role in the development process, contributing to the design and refinement of gameplay mechanics, level layouts, and complex systems. This role is perfect for someone who understands that great design is a balance of psychology, logic, and creative flair.
You will collaborate with artists to ensure the world looks right, with engineers to ensure it works right, and with animators to ensure it feels right. From drafting initial concepts in GDDs (Game Design Documents) to playtesting and tuning variables, your fingerprints will be on the core of our games.
Key Responsibilities
* Mechanic & System Design: Assist in the conceptualization and refinement of game mechanics, quest structures, and progression systems.
* Level & Quest Development: Help build immersive environments and narrative‐driven quests that maintain player flow and engagement.
* Documentation: Create and maintain detailed design documentation. You will learn how to communicate complex systems clearly so that the entire production team is aligned.
* Prototyping: Work with the team to quickly prototype new gameplay ideas, helping to fail fast and find the "fun" early in the process.
* Playtesting & Balancing: Participate in rigorous playtesting sessions. You will collect data, provide feedback, and support the design team in balancing features to achieve the perfect difficulty curve.
* Collaborative Workflow: Work closely with technical artists and programmers to see your designs through from the whiteboard to the screen.
Candidate Qualifications
Gameloft Brisbane is seeking a candidate who is as analytical as they are creative. Your portfolio should not just show "cool ideas," but the reasoning behind them.
* Education: Recently completed or currently pursuing a degree in Game Design, Interactive Media, or a related field.
* Portfolio: A strong professional portfolio that highlights your design skills, your thought process, and your ability to solve design problems. (We want to see your decision‐making abilities!).
* Design Fundamentals: A keen understanding of pacing, reward systems, player psychology, and engagement loops.
* Technical Literacy: Basic knowledge of game engines (Unity or Unreal) and an understanding of how design translates into technical implementation.
* Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must be able to pitch an idea and then document it with surgical precision.
* Team Spirit: The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and take constructive feedback with a growth mindset.
* Residency: You must be a current resident of Queensland and be able to demonstrate this at the time of application.
Bonus Points
* Unreal Engine & Blueprints: Familiarity with UE4/UE5 and the ability to build basic prototypes using Blueprints.
* Genre Interest: A genuine interest in PC/Console games, particularly within the Life Sim or Action/Adventure genres.
* Analytical Skills: Experience with spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) for game balancing and data tracking.
