Mater Hospital Brisbane has an exceptional opportunity available for a Chief Medical Officer to join the Department of General Medicine.
This is a full-time role to start on 3 August 2026 and finish on 31 January 2027, based at Mater South Brisbane, and will report to Director of General Medicine and indirectly to the Director of Physician Education.
The Chief Medical Registrar is to be an advocate and point of contact for the registrars in the Department of General Medicine. On occasion the CMR will also have to deal with registrars that are finding it difficult to fit in with the demands of the position or who are under-performing.
Key accountabilities
* Create and maintain a weekly and annual leave roster for all medical registrars
* Ensure and coordinate written exam preparation for Basic Physician Trainees
* Assist the Director of General Medicine and Director of Physician Education with management of counter-disaster plans and counter-disaster incidents at department level
* Regular direct input to the Director of General Medicine and Director of Physician Education
* Regular meetings with registrars to discuss/monitor registrar environment and quality of clinical service and the working environment within the department
* Disseminate information to registrars regarding issues with the Department of General Medicine, RACP, Industrial issues, etc.
* To be available to provide assistance to medical registrars for any problems they encounter
* Choice of clinical work and/or research
* Encourage an environment of teaching and research
* Follow hospital practices and demonstrate initiative aligned to ensuring the safest possible environment for patients and staff
* Lead and manage staff by fostering and committing to patient safety and quality in the delivery of health care by maintaining and evaluating safety and quality practices and initiatives.
About you
* Must have general registration with AHPRA
* Must have FRACP part 1 and FRACP part 2
* Weekend work required for FRACP exams
