Job Description
Thornton Engineering provides the design and fabrication of structural steel, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, plate & pilings to clients throughout Australia. We are currently recruiting an experienced and qualified Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Corio, VIC.
Responsibilities
* Manage junior engineers and draftsmen to meet project requirements with on‑time delivery and high quality standards.
* Provide support and mentorship to the Engineering Team and develop a training program to upskill employees.
* Review project specifications for engineering and fabrication processes.
* Review RFQ packages and advise the sales and estimating team of potential materials, welding, or NDE requirements.
* Submit design recommendations to ensure attainment for estimating purposes.
* Liaise with the Welding Engineer in the selection of weld preparation and materials.
* Liaise with Project Managers to ensure timely submission of engineering documentation to the client and ensure timely design registration.
* Conduct failure and root‑cause analyses on fabrication issues.
* Assist the QC/QA team with documentation when necessary.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
* Membership with a National or International Engineering Association is highly desirable.
* Demonstrated history of continual professional development.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role.
* Proven knowledge of AS and ASME Code requirements for Engineering and Fabrication.
* Proven knowledge of national and international codes and procedures, NDT techniques, welding processes, materials and heat treatments.
Salary & Application
Salary range: $85,000 – $95,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. Full‑time position available.
