Curtin University invites applications for the position of Research Fellow within the WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering (WASM:MECE). This role presents an exceptional opportunity for a suitably qualified and motivated individual to engage in applied research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, process monitoring, machine learning, and advanced process control, in collaboration with industry and academic partners.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research focused on emerging digital techniques for advanced process control, including but not limited to:
* AI-enabled smart sensors
* Digital twinning
* Remote Operations and Security
* Novel communications technologies for mobile assets
This role will involve strong engagement with industry partners, fostering collaborative networks that support the translation of research into real-world industrial applications. The successful candidate will be based at Curtin's Bentley campus and will work closely with interdisciplinary teams across Curtin and affiliated organisations.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Lead and contribute to research projects aligned with Curtin's strategic focus in resources technology and critical minerals.
* Develop and maintain active collaborations with industry stakeholders and academic colleagues.
* Disseminate research findings through high-quality publications, conference presentations, and technical reports.
* Identify commercialisation opportunities in collaboration with Curtin's commercialisation team.
* Supervise honours, masters, and doctoral research students where appropriate.
* Contribute to a collegial and productive academic environment in alignment with Curtin's values and strategic goals.
Who we are looking for (Selection Criteria):
Essential:
* A doctoral qualification in a relevant engineering, computing, or physical sciences discipline.
* Demonstrated research expertise in data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and Open Process Control.
* A strong record of research outputs in high-quality, peer-reviewed outlets.
* Experience in the design, development, or implementation of automation systems, particularly within industrial, mining, or manufacturing contexts.
* High-level written and oral communication skills, including the capacity to engage effectively with academic and industry stakeholders.
* Experience with advanced communication technologies (e.g., 5G) for industrial automation and remote operations.
Desirable:
* Experience with open process control architectures.
* Familiarity with advanced communication technologies (e.g., 5G) for industrial automation and remote operations.
* Track record of successful competitive grant applications.
* Experience in postgraduate student supervision.
* Experience with predictive modelling for mining and metallurgical processes.
* Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain an Australian government security clearance in the future

* Australian citizenship (not including dual citizenship)
