In this rewarding role, you will provide individual counselling to primary school students, delivering tailored therapeutic services in a supportive and engaging environment. You will work closely with the school's well-being team to assess, plan, and support students, ensuring they receive the care they need as they transition to secondary school. Your work will extend beyond direct service delivery, offering consultation and support to families, carers, and other professionals involved in the care of the young people. Reporting to the _headspace _School Services Senior Clinician and coordinating with the Oatlands Primary School Head of Wellbeing, you’ll be part of a collaborative effort to promote mental health and well-being within the school community. **About headspace**
The objectives of _headspace _are to improve access for young people to mental health and related services, and to ensure better coordination between such services, by:
- providing holistic services through headspace sites; increasing the community’s capacity to identify young people with mental ill-health and related problems as early as possible;
- encouraging help-seeking by young people and their carers;
- providing evidence-based, high-quality services delivered by well-trained professionals; and
- providing a mechanism for service coordination and integration within communities and at a federal and state/territory government level.
**Qualifications**:
**About you - experience in the following areas**
- Establish a potential client’s needs (through discussion of the presenting issue/s) and determine the client’s suitability for services
- Undertake psychosocial assessments of primary school aged students
- Deliver evidence-informed clinical interventions, mental health literacy and short-medium term interventions to children (and their families where appropriate)
- Engage children in early help seeking and provide seamless and coordinated treatment pathways
- Maintain appropriate clinical notes; formulate assessment, care and risk management plans and maintain data requirements using the designated Client Management System/s.
- Provision of evidence-based group programs for children/young people at the school as required
- Participation in community awareness and engagement activities
**Skills**
- Highly developed communication, problem solving and negotiation skills especially with children in the early stages of help seeking
- Highly developed knowledge of the common mental health, and social problems faced by children and the indicated evidence-based treatment options
- Ability to work with parents, carers and the family system where there is a higher complexity of care required
- Ability to maintain positive stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders i.e. students, local community, government agencies, private practitioners etc.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work within a multidiciplinary team working towards shared goals, with high levels of professionalism and model EACH and headspace core values
- Experience in working within a School context. (Primary School experience additionally relevant)
**Mandatory qualifications**
- Holds a minimum Bachelor level qualification in Youth Work, Social Sciences, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or related discipline
- Post graduate qualification in related field or minimum 3 years’ experience working in the relevant field (highly regarded)
- Completion of a Criminal History Check and Employee Working with Children Check
- Current state-based driver’s license
