About The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer – Database (Cloud & Hybrid) to design, implement, and support scalable, resilient database solutions that bridge traditional on-premises infrastructure with modern cloud platforms.
This is a hands-on, technically demanding role ideal for seasoned professionals with deep expertise in database administration within complex, mission critical enterprise environments. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in driving the modernisation & optimisation of NSW Health's database infrastructure, enabling secure, high-performing and cost-effective technical solutions that support evolving business needs.
In This Role, You Will
Design, implement, and support hybrid database solutions using Oracle across on-premise and cloud (AWS) environments.
Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to deliver scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.
Lead the modernisation of legacy systems and migration to cloud or hybrid architectures
Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise database performance, availability, and capacity.
Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and enterprise standards while providing technical leadership and support.
This role is internally referred to as Senior Engineer - Database.
About You
We are looking for someone with:
Extensive demonstrated experience in database engineering, database support, including hybrid/cloud environments (AWS) and Oracle.
Skilled in Infrastructure as Code (especially Terraform), scripting (Perl, Bash, SQL, PLSQL).
Solid understanding of enterprise networking, identity & access management, and security best practices in hybrid IT settings
Strong problem-solving abilities and experience operating in complex, large-scale environments using Agile and ITSM frameworks (e.g. ServiceNow)
Confident communication and documentation skills, able to act as a trusted advisor across diverse business units.
Proven ability to lead and mentor, while balancing strategic thinking with hands-on support for both projects and BAU operations.
