Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health Child and Adolescent

This position is available on a fixed-term and permanent full-time basis (76 hours per fortnight). Fixed-term appointments may be extended and/or lead to permanency.

An opportunity exists for a talented and enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Gascoyne CAMHS Team.

Centrally located on the coast of Western Australia, the Gascoyne region extends along 600 kilometres of the Indian Ocean coastline and about 500 kilometres inland with an area of 135,277 square kilometres and a population of approximately 9,500 people. The region includes Australia's largest fringing coral reef, wetlands, and several World Heritage Areas such as Shark Bay and Ningaloo Reef. It is an established region founded on horticulture, pastoral and fishery production, resources and tourism, and it hosts a diverse Indigenous community of five Aboriginal language groups.

To be successful you will have...

  • Eligibility for registration in the category of Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment, case management and therapy of children, adolescents and their families presenting with mental health problems at an advanced level
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of emotional, behavioural, psychological and psychiatric disorders of children and adolescents
  • Demonstrated effective communication, liaison and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated effective negotiation, problem solving, analytical and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated experience in community work and liaison
  • Sound knowledge of WA Mental Health Act 2014 and other relevant legislation
  • Eligibility for / or possession of a current C or C‐A Class driver's licence or other specialised licence class

Position Profile:

Provide a community based child and adolescent mental health nursing service. Demonstrate competent nursing practice by delivering individualised care using a problem‐solving approach to children, adolescents with mental health problems and their families.

Area Profile

The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Midwest health region of Western Australia covers more than 470,000 square kilometres, nearly one fifth of the State, with its population concentrated along the coast. The region is located in the northern middle section of Western Australia and incorporates three health districts – Gascoyne, Geraldton, Midwest and Murchison – and is recognised for its unique natural environment and cultural diversity, with Aboriginal people representing 13% of the overall population.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
