We are now seeking Operational Modelling SMEs with strong experience in modelling high-speed rail operations and service concepts.
Responsibilities
* Develop, refine, and analyse operational models for high-speed rail services, including timetabling, fleet deployment, capacity analysis, and performance modelling.
* Conduct simulations to test service patterns, dwell time assumptions, turnaround times, and infrastructure constraints.
* Support the evaluation of service quality impacts, including punctuality, headways, recovery margins, and operational robustness.
* Assess interface requirements between operations, maintenance windows, depot logistics, and network performance.
* Provide data-driven insights to inform operational strategy, fleet configuration, and infrastructure needs.
* Work closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and customer SMEs to ensure modelling outputs support integrated planning.
* Prepare modelling reports, assumptions registers, and presentation materials for client and stakeholder review.
* Support scenario testing and optimisation to ensure reliable, customer-focused, and efficient service outcomes.
Qualifications
* Strong professional experience in operational modelling for rail systems (high-speed preferred).
* Proficiency with timetable and simulation tools such as RailSys, OpenTrack, TRENO, or equivalent modelling software.
* Understanding of operational principles for high-speed rail (>250 km/h), including dwell times, headways, braking curves, gradients, and recovery margins.
* Experience in performance modelling, timetabling, and capacity assessment.
* Strong data analysis and scenario evaluation skills.
* Degree in Transport Engineering, Railway Operations, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
* Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Willingness to work in Australia several times a year on a monthly or weekly basis.
