The Opportunity

The Academic Lead Community and Social Work reports to the Academic Director, and provides senior academic leadership, management and coordination to all aspects of Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Human and Community Services. Academic Leads will have a teaching component and are expected to maintain a high level of discipline specific knowledge and scholarly activity. An important aspect of the role is to monitor pedagogical approaches, academic quality, program review and design as well as ensure that the courses are fully compliant with legislative and professional body requirements. Academic Leads are responsible for the management and coordination of teaching staff and contribute to the design and development of new courses, undertake continuous improvement of existing courses, and monitor the quality and efficacy of the programs being delivered in liaison with the Academic Director and key SCEI-HE personnel as required.

Responsibilities and Duties

* Ensure that all aspects of the course fully meet the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS) for student learning outcomes.
* Develop course materials, assessments and rubrics for use in online and face to face delivery.
* Prepare and deliver lectures and seminars, conduct tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions.
* Ensure up to date knowledge of current professional bodies, ethical standards and compliance requirements relevant to the industry and discipline area.
* Undertake scholarly and research activities that add value to course delivery and improvement.
* Oversee course content design and alignment of learning outcomes to learning activities and assessments.
* Provide research supervision to graduate students.
* Review course content as part of the institute's continuous improvement process.
* Provide guidance and advocacy with respect to the MSW/ BHCS and take a lead role in coordinating and providing support to academic and professional staff in relation to the course.
* Supervise academic staff on course delivery and assessment matters. Undertake staff reviews and appraisals.
* Act as the key senior academic when liaising with the professional bodies, industry groups, government, education and community agencies, especially in relation to Social Work and allied industries.
* Provide course leadership in the specific discipline area and support staff in professional development and scholarly activities.
* Consult with students and supervise postgraduate students engaged in course work projects.
* Undertake timetabling and planning processes for structured learning activities, facilities and resources.
* Assist with student recruitment marketing activities.
* Prepare semester course reports for the Academic Director and assist in managing academic integrity, and the collation, moderation and submission of results.
* Participate in a range of institute and governance meetings and contribute to the institute's planning and committee activities.

Selection Criteria

* PhD (or equivalent accreditation and standing) in a relevant field related to the discipline area of the course (Social work).
* Extensive research experience and a track record in grant applications and research project management.
* Membership to a relevant professional organisation (AASW).
* Current accreditation relevant to the discipline area or course.
* Expert knowledge of current Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS)
* Capacity to deliver contemporary, research informed learning, teaching and assessment principles across a broad range of subjects in the field.
* Demonstrated record of undertaking research and scholarly activity related to the discipline.
* Proven ability to initiate and coordinate contemporary scholarship and education design relevant to the discipline.
* Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate higher education programs with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
* Have a substantial publication record.
* Knowledge and experience in contemporary curriculum design and writing.
* Record of supervising research students.
* Proven ability to meet deadlines with demonstrated strong time management and organisational skills.
* Strong industry background and registration with relevant industry bodies.
* Demonstrated ability to provide high level leadership and management skills with the ability to work collaboratively in research or teaching teams.
* Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to foster a scholarly and cooperative teaching and learning environment.
