Profectus is seeking an experienced Software Developer to design, develop, and deliver custom software applications supporting Defence capability. This role is focused on building, tailoring, and integrating applications across secure Defence environments where reliability, compliance, and quality are essential. You will work end-to-end across the software lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, and documentation, and play a hands-on role in completing applications, preparing accreditation deliverables, and supporting rollout activities across multiple sites. The role suits a developer who can operate independently, produce high-quality outputs with minimal supervision, and engage confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders within a structured Defence delivery environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, deliver, and maintain custom software applications meeting functional and performance specifications
* Tailor and complete partially-built applications, taking them through to full specification and release
* Build and maintain software components compatible with Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments
* Participate in rollout, verification, and validation activities across multiple Defence sites
* Contribute to post-rollout optimisation and continuous improvement
* Prepare detailed documentation packs to support formal system accreditation
* Apply secure coding practices and contribute to software hardening activities
* Work collaboratively with engineering, integration, and stakeholder teams to deliver compliant outcomes
* Operate within Defence accreditation processes and structured delivery frameworks
Required Experience
* 5+ years of professional software development experience
* Demonstrated experience across the full software lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, and documentation
* Strong proficiency in one or more of: C++ or C# and Python (desirable)
* Familiarity with version control and software repositories such as Git
* Experience working across both Windows and Red Hat Linux environments
* Proven ability to work independently and deliver quality outputs with minimal supervision
* Experience producing technical documentation for formal accreditation or regulatory approval
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable Experience
* Familiarity with Defence accreditation processes
* Experience with DevOps pipelines and CI/CD environments
* Knowledge of secure coding practices and software hardening
* Background in systems requiring compliance, audit, or formal validation
* Exposure to complex, distributed Defence ICT environments
Security Requirements
* Must be an Australian Citizen
* Minimum NV1 Security Clearance required, current and active
Working Arrangements
* Onsite, Canberra
* Some domestic travel may be required as part of the engagement
* Remote work is not available for this engagement
