We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Draftsman to join a well-established engineering and product development team specialising in fully customised container solutions, heavy-duty storage, and workshop solutions. This permanent full-time role is based at Grass Valley, supporting projects across mining, industrial, and commercial sectors.
The role offers flexible start and finish times, and temporary accommodation is available if needed to assist with relocation. You will be responsible for taking designs from initial concept through to detailed drafting, engineering checks, and production support. The successful candidate will bring advanced SolidWorks capability, strong mechanical design experience, and a practical understanding of steel fabrication processes.
Key Responsibilities:
• 3D modelling and detailed drafting using SolidWorks
• Design steel structures, assemblies, and components for container modifications and workshop storage systems
• Produce fabrication drawings, weld symbols, sheet-metal developments, and assembly packages
• Create accurate Bills of Materials and assist with ERP/MRP integration
• Conduct basic engineering checks, including loadings, deflection, and lifting points
• Work within relevant Australian Standards and client/mining specifications
• Provide technical support to production teams during fabrication, assembly, and testing
• Update drawings and library for "as built" changes and continuous improvement
Key Requirements:
• Excellent SolidWorks proficiency
• Experience with steel fabrication, vehicle body fabrication, sheet metal, or container modifications
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including laser cutting, hydraulics, folding, welding, machining, and painting
• Ability to produce accurate, workshop-ready drawings
• Strong mechanical principles and structural awareness
• Experience creating BOMs and working with ERP/MRP systems
• Exposure to mining, resources, or industrial sectors highly advantageous but not essential
