Lead a Proud Rowing Tradition at Launceston Church Grammar School

Launceston Church Grammar School is an Anglican co-educational day and boarding school in northern Tasmania, renowned for excellence in education, wellbeing and community connection. Our rowing program is a proud and highly valued part of School life, supported by strong student participation, dedicated coaches, engaged families and quality facilities.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Rowing to lead and further develop our rowing program. This is a full-time leadership position reporting to the Head of Sporting Programs and offers the opportunity to shape the future of rowing at Launceston Grammar while fostering a positive and aspirational team culture.

About the Role

The Head of Rowing is a prominent leadership role within both the School and the wider Tasmanian rowing community. The successful candidate will lead all aspects of the rowing program, balancing participation and enjoyment with performance and high achievement.

This role requires a dynamic and organised leader who can manage the day-to-day logistics of training and competition while also driving long-term program growth and development. This position includes regular early mornings, weekend commitments and out-of-hours work, balanced by a flexible work schedule in consultation with the Head of Sporting Programs.

In this role, you will:

* Lead and develop a rowing program ethos aligned with the values and direction of the School
* Coordinate students, coaches, staff and parents to support student growth and rowing success
* Recruit, mentor and manage rowing coaches and support staff
* Oversee rowing operations, including training schedules, regattas, camps and logistics
* Manage rowing equipment, maintenance and program resources in collaboration with the Boatshed Manager
* Coordinate crew selection processes and establish clear performance and development goals
* Build positive relationships with Rowing Tasmania, local rowing clubs and school rowing programs across the State
* Support student wellbeing, injury prevention, nutrition and recovery practices
* Contribute to financial planning, budgeting and strategic development of the rowing program
* Lead rowing-related events, community engagement initiatives and fundraising activities
* Promote participation pathways including club rowing and high-performance opportunities
* Assist the Head of Sporting Programs with broader sports program initiatives during Terms 2 and 3
* Represent the School and rowing program in a positive and professional manner at all times

About You

We are seeking an energetic, relational and highly organised leader who demonstrates:

* A genuine passion for rowing and student development
* Experience leading successful rowing programs, including strategic planning and team development
* Strong people leadership, coaching and mentoring capability
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and complex logistics
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills across students, parents, staff and the wider community
* Initiative, adaptability and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
* The ability to work collaboratively as part of a broader sporting and School community
* Commitment to fostering a positive culture that balances participation, wellbeing and performance
* Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings and weekends as required

Qualifications and Requirements

* Tertiary qualification in education, sports management or a discipline related to rowing
* Minimum level 1 Rowing Australia coaching accreditation.
* Current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration
* National Police Check or willingness to obtain
* Current HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
* Current Class C Driver's Licence, with the ability to tow a boat trailer
* Personal involvement and achievement in rowing as a coach, athlete or administrator
* We are also open to considering a current educator with relevant rowing experience for the role.
