Salary rates are effective as of 3 September 2025.Applications Close: Tuesday 8th July at 4.00 pm AWSTWA Country Health Service (WACHS) is recruiting applicants to commence Stage 1 Psychiatry Rural Psychiatry Training WA (RPTWA) program based in Albany, Broome, Bunbury and Geraldton. This intake is for Fixed Term Full time or Fixed Term Part Time appointments for eligible applicants commencing in February 2026.Applicants will be assessed to determine the classification level in accordance with employment requirements. Successful applicants will be offered a length of training contract to align with training requirements.Applicants who identify as Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island, Māori or as being from a rural origins background will automatically be offered an interview, providing they meet the eligibility criteria in accordance with the RANZCP Registration for Entry into Training, Education and Training Policy and Procedure. More information can be found by reading the policy specifically section 4.7.3.Position Profile:This intake is for Stage 1 training entry at four of the RPTWA Comprehensive Training Hubs:1 position for RANZCP Stage 1 entry in Broome, Kimberley Region1 position for RANZCP Stage 1 entry in Geraldton, Midwest Region2 positions for RANZCP Stage 1 entry in Albany, Great Southern Region2 positions for RANZCP Stage 1 entry in Bunbury, South West RegionThe successful applicants will work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary and medical teams. Under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist, this position provides assessment and management for clients requiring specialist psychiatric care. The successful applicant will be committing to a length of training contract with WACHS.The Rural Psychiatry Training WA (RPTWA) program is overseen by the Western Australia Branch Training Committee, in accordance with the requirements for obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). The training program provides clinical and formal supervised training experiences in rural generalist psychiatry.To be eligible for a training position you must have:At the time of applicationSuccessful completion of a medical degreeCurrent general registration as a medical practitioner in Australia or Aotearoa New ZealandAt commencement of training:Completed two years (FTE) of general medical trainingThe assessment of applicants will be based on the following:Eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.Admission to Training of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists for basic training (stages 1-3).Demonstrated desire to obtain knowledge of/and experience in biological and psychotherapeutic interventions.Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a multidisciplinary interest.Demonstrated analytical ability.Highly developed report writing and policy formulation skills.Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.Demonstrated computer skills to enable management of medical and patient records, navigation of online policy access, internal communication and completing online learning resources.Eligible for / or in possession of a current C or C-A Class drivers licence.Understanding of the issues around providing Mental Health services with a rural community, including provision of culturally appropriate services to indigenous families and communities.Knowledge of the Western Australian Mental Health Act 2014 and other related legislation.Understanding of and experience of working within RANZCP policies and guidelinesRelevant training or experience in educationCurrent knowledge and commitment to Equal Opportunity in all aspects of employment and service delivery.Employment is subject to appointment pre-requisites outlined in the JDF.For queries relating to Training Program Requirements: Please contact Zoe Retallick, Coordinator Rural Psychiatry Training WA via phone or email Applicants are requested to apply online via MedCareersWA.
