Work Health & Safety Officer - Cape York
The Opportunity
Join a remote Local Government team on The Cape (FNQ) and take responsibility for coordinating workplace health and safety policies, procedures, and compliance.
This role ensures Council meets its obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, while fostering a strong safety culture across all departments.
You'll provide practical support and advice to staff, investigate incidents, deliver training, maintain WHS registers and audits, and guide Council in implementing risk management strategies.
This is a hands-on role that offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to make a real impact on community safety.

About You
We're looking for a qualified WHS professional who can work independently while building strong relationships across Council.
You'll be confident delivering training, undertaking audits, and supporting a safe workplace culture.
You will bring:
* Experience working in a cross-cultural or Indigenous community context
* Diploma-level qualification in Work Health & Safety (minimum)
* Minimum 3 years' experience in WHS roles
* Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and ability to apply it in Local Government
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and reporting skills
* Current C Class Driver's Licence and White Card
* Ability to obtain a Blue Card and pass a Police Check
