Special Counsel, Industrial Arbitrations, Justice Queensland Government•Brisbane Inner City, Australia
As a Special Counsel in the Workplace Law Team, you will provide expert, authoritative advice and assist with advocacy in complex, major or urgent legal matters.
In particular this role will be responsible for appearing as advocate on behalf of the State of Queensland before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission in arbitrations of determinations under s 180 of the Industrial Relations Act 2016, where enterprise bargaining negotiations have been unsuccessful.
The role ensures the delivery of a high standard, cost effective legal service and advocacy in accordance with Crown Law's Client Service Charter.
Technical skills, abilities and cultural capability:
* Experience advocating at all stages of the litigation process, including oral submissions and leading evidence in chief, cross examination and re-examination.
* Knowledge of employment law, industrial relations and discrimination law, or related area that is easily transferable.
* 10+ years' post admission experience ideally gained in Workplace Law, or in an area that is easily transferable.
* Extensive knowledge of the relevant legislation outlined for this team, or similar legislation that is easily transferrable.
* Extensive knowledge of the relevant procedural rules and regulations, i.e. Industrial Relations (Tribunals) Rules 2011, Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal Rules 2009, or similar knowledge that is easily transferable, and be familiar with the rules of the Federal and High Court.
