The Role
The Enterprise Architecture (Infrastructure & Cloud Platforms) function within the Architecture and Strategy Branch (ASB) is seeking an EL 1 Enterprise Architect to support the design and uplift of Defence's evolving digital ecosystem. The role provides architectural leadership across complex, large scale environments, enabling secure, resilient, and high performing technology outcomes that support Defence's operational and strategic needs.
This role, located within the Enterprise Architecture Infrastructure and Cloud Platforms directorate, is responsible for developing enterprise level architectures spanning on premises, hybrid, and multi cloud environments (including Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform). You will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure end to end architectural coherence, strategic alignment, and informed investment decision making.
The position requires the ability to provide authoritative advice and produce high quality written artefacts, such as architecture blueprints, strategy papers, options analyses, and executive decision briefs with a high degree of independence.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will bring exceptional leadership, communication, and architecture capability within a highly complex enterprise environment. Specifically, we are seeking someone who:
* Has a demonstrable track record as an enterprise architect, including developing and communicating architectures to diverse audiences. Must have TOGAF qualifications (preferred) or demonstrable experience.
* Has strong experience with enterprise IT infrastructure, software platforms, and public cloud environments across Azure, AWS and/or GCP. Must have qualifications (preferred) or demonstrable experience in cloud.
* Can operate effectively within a fast paced, geographically dispersed organisation.
* Is able to engage confidently with senior technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing clear, defensible advice.
* Possesses strong written communication skills, with the ability to independently produce executive ready, high quality architectural documentation with minimal oversight.
* Brings sound judgement, adaptability, and a commitment to Defence's mission and values.
