About The Role
We're looking for a Senior Developer to play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining business‑critical applications on our IBM i (AS400) platform. This role is central to ensuring system reliability, supporting operational excellence, and enabling strategic initiatives across the organisation.
You'll work closely with stakeholders to deliver high‑quality solutions that meet business needs. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset are essential, as you'll work with colleagues across the organisation and help uplift capability within the team.
What You'll Be Doing
* Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather and clarify requirements for new and existing applications.
* Lead the development and enhancement of solutions using RPG IV, RPGLE (free‑format), SQLRPGLE, and CL/ILE, following best practices and coding standards.
* Write efficient SQL queries to support business processes and reporting needs.
* Perform unit testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure high‑quality outcomes.
* Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement across the development team.
* Share technical expertise, mentor others, and help build capability within the team.
* Maintain clear and up‑to‑date documentation to support knowledge sharing.
* Ensure all work aligns with company standards for quality, security, and compliance.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced
AS400 / IBM i Senior Developer
who can confidently lead development across our core business systems. You'll bring deep technical expertise, a collaborative working style, and the ability to translate business needs into reliable, high‑quality solutions.
Technical Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* 8+ years' experience designing, developing, and supporting applications on the IBM i (AS400) platform.
* Advanced skills in RPG IV, RPGLE (free‑format), SQLRPGLE, and CL/ILE.
* Strong understanding of RPG/APIs/EDI concepts and frameworks.
* Demonstrated experience writing efficient SQL queries and conducting impact analysis (e.g., using X‑Analysis).
* Knowledge of ITIL practices and change management processes (including tools such as Implementor).
* Experience working with modern integration components such as APIs, FTP, and exposure to cloud-connected tools like Power Apps.
* Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot.
* Industry experience in retail or supply chain is desirable but not essential.
